The taste of truth

It was a palatable paradise!

On a whim, I bought a couple of bottles of vegan buffalo sauce. Usually, buffalo seasoning is a little too spicy for me, but keeping watchful eye on cholesterol levels has led me to choose flavors, otherwise, unconsidered. The “vegan” part is what got my attention, as I perused the aisles of my go-to grocery warehouse.

I first tried the sauce on salmon burgers, and was quite impressed. Then, I brushed it on a head of cauliflower, before roasting, and it was phenomenal! Having had a traumatic tofu experience, earlier in the week, I wondered if this flavor sensation could serve as a tool of reconciliation for me and the vapid vegan protein.

Amid my morning rush, needing to pack a quickly prepared lunch, I tossed the buffalo sauce into a bowl of cubed tofu, before dumping it all into a hot skillet. I sautéed it just until the sauce began to caramelize on the cubes.

Yes! Caramelization, alone = FLAVOR, but this included my newfound friend – my bold, sassy, spicy, yet approachable pal, buffalo sauce. To say that my tofu was merely transformed would be a gross understatement of the mouth-watering miracle my taste buds experienced.

The biggest surprise? Not only did I taste the newly familiar flavor of the sauce, but I tasted the tofu, too. Who knew? Tofu…TASTES! The union of complex seasoning and good-for-me protein resulted in revelation. The sauce served more than its own purpose. It magnified the qualities of the protein.

So far, this post reads like a food blog. Let me assure you, as much as I adore kicking around in the kitchen, I have no aspirations to devote precious pen-to-paper time to food preparation.

Not, currently, anyway.

After loading what felt like the weight of my entire existence into my purse and lunchbox, I began the ten minute (tops) commute to work. Passing glances at the greening grass, blue skies, and dancing daylilies drew me to the reservoir of thankfulness in my heart. Once there, the Lord met me with insights into the morning’s culinary curiosities.

The sauce is the song of praise that we hear for the first time, whose lyrics touch home, and whose melody lingers long like a memory. We try the tune thru our own lips, and we are astounded, amazed, and blessed beyond reason by the results! Heavy laden concern is replaced by the lighter fare of this appetizing application.

Praise is preparation, and when it is applied to the atmosphere, God’s presence is pleased.

This new song opens new doors to heartfelt, bold flavors of worship…worship of Truth, Himself.

Then, we notice something. As we have slathered our song of praise over every square inch of spiritual table-spread, we discover that Truth has a flavor of His own. That flavor simply cannot be experienced in fullness, until it is marinated in authentic, spirit-breathed worship and praise!

Taste and see that the Lord is good;

blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 34:8

Truth is pure.

Truth is holy.

Truth is good.

Truth is nourishing.

Truth is good!

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.

Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.

Worship the LORD in the splendor of his [1] holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.

Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it;

let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy;

they will sing before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth.

Psalm 96

Let us put on our praise, and discover delicacies that surpass our wildest imaginations!
